  The YMCA of Sarnia-Lambton

Building strong kids, strong families and strong communities is something that the YMCA of Sarnia Lambton has been doing for more than 85 years.  The Y is at the heart of our community serving over 18,000 different men, women and children in 1999.

From Health and Wellness programs to ChildCare to programs for Youth at Risk, the YMCA is for people of all ages, faiths, races, abilities, ages and incomes.  As one of the oldest charities, the YMCA provides financial assistance for individuals wanting to access any of the programs and services.

The YMCA movement in Sarnia Lambton is as strong today as it was back in the early 1900’s.  Much of this reason is its flexibility.  The YMCA reflects its community and the YMCA in Sarnia has continually identified local needs and responded with grassroots solutions, often times in collaboration with other local organizations.  The Y is run by a volunteer board made up of community leaders, who keep things on target.

The YMCA always emphasizes prevention.  The Y knows that it’s far preferable and far less costly to stop a problem before it happens.  That why so much of what the YMCA does is aimed at developing responsible, self reliant young people with strong character and values and a strong sense of their own worth.

The YMCA of Sarnia Lambton has been constantly testing the limits.  The new state of the art Jerry McCaw Family Centre, is an example of working together with many corporate and government agencies to obtain a much larger vision for the community.

What sets the Y apart is its dedication to developing moral and ethical behaviour.  The Y operates on the principle that all people have an inherent value, and all are worthy of respect.  The Y believes that people are responsible for their own lives and actions, but can only reach their full potential by joining in positive association to meet the needs of all.

The YMCA of Sarnia Lambton believes in the value of community.  All people need a place to belong, where they can share in decisions and treat each other with respect, kindness, and love.  For the people of Sarnia Lambton, the YMCA is such a place.

With your help, the YMCA will continue to be an integral part of our community’s social fabric.
